Maybe you're trying the wrong partition number. Try
dir fw:1,\
to see if that is the case; if so, vary the number until
you found the right one (2 or 8 are nice tries).

I'm sorry but I'm completely new to debian, and I'm not sure to
understand what you say :-)
I followed the instructions I found on debian site, and I managed to
boot linux on my internal hard drive.
Now I want to install debian on my firewire hard drive, but the
installer does not see it.

sure about that? i asked the same question some week ago, and
i think it was michael who pointed out that it was, if even possible,
very hard to do..
