Thanks, that's *exactly* what I needed to know. I can deal with
editing config files just so long as it actually does *work*. Bummer
about the missing functionality, but the only real losses for me are
backlight and hibernate; still, those *are* pretty essential. Am I

I'm getting a refurbished unit with a 30-day guarantee, if I get one
with a bad SODIMM slot I'll just send it back. Thanks for the tip,
though.

You are running unstable, just wait and you will see something critical

Good luck.

Hmm. As long as it's not an insurmountable obstacle, I think I might
go ahead and go for the 12" model after all.

I'm on wheezy/sid on a PowerBook G4 15" 1.67/1.5GHz for everyday use.
Everything does work correctly but the grahic card has some
issues with KMS, gallium ... but everything was OK with squeeze (with
2.6.32 kernel)
On squeeze, I've got DRI with radeon.agpmode=-1
Tosoa.

If your question is about the status of NVidia drivers on the PPC
plateform, I can tell you that my Quad G5 had always worked fine first
with the nv drivers, then with the Nouveau drivers sin
Hmm, interesting. http://mac.linux.be/files/xorg/powerbook4.txt
appears to be for exactly the model I'd like to get, the 1.5GHz 12"
Powerbook, using nouveau. (It seems it supports all the way down to
monochrome colordepth!?!?) Can anybody confirm whether this works or
not? I'd assume it must, if th
Have a look here, you will lots of xorg.conf files I collected over the
years. What I found out is that nouveau does not work well, but the old
nv driver works fine for nvidia cards:

Oh, naturally. I had both a 1GB DDR stick (for the 12") and 2x 1GB
DDR2 sticks (for the 15") on hand anyway, so whichever I get

Oh, that's in nv though, not nouveau...what was your G4 running?

Yeah, there's a couple different bug reports for this chipset
reporting bad video relating to color depth, and they've been around
since 2009 and 2010 :/ I think I might have to go with the 15" after
all, based on this...

Hmm. I've noticed something like that on my G5, but I hadn't gotten
around to looking at it; looked like it was only running in 15
For what it's worth, there is a dedicated XFCE & LXDE install CD for
PPC in both stable and testing. Your mileage may vary but I've had
better luck using the stable ISO which -- if you choose the advanced
option -- will also allow you to choose to install a system from
either stable, testing, or un

I'm going to be purchasing an aluminum Powerbook G4 on which I want to
run Debian. However, I'm trying to decide which model. Initially I was
looking at the 12" 1.5GHz model (M9690LL/A,) which is roughly on par
with the laptop I have now, specs-wise, and that fills my needs pretty
adequately. Howev
