This is similar to the problem I have with my PowerBook G4 when I
install kernel 2.6.12 or 2.6.14; this should be fixed in 2.6.15 but I
still have to try this new kernel.

PS: I just installed an older version of Sarge, I think it was the
Sarge Stable 3
I've installed 31r1 "Sarge" on a PowerMac G4 with a Sonnet upgrade.
The install seems to have completed without incident, but upon
rebooting, the machine locks up after starting the Linux boot,
with the following left on the screen:
pmac_init(): exit
id mach(): done
MMU:enter
MMU:hw init
hash:en
