Thanks -- that has helped a bit. Though the colours are now not as
bright they are still kind of washed out -- on my desktop's monitor

colours on my LCD are very washed-out in comparison to other monitors
(either LCD or CRT). OS X had some kind of colour profile applet (from
my memory of the very small amount of time I've used it). Does such a
