ADB mouse not wroking on 9600/200

got debian 2.2 on a powermac 9600/200 with standard ADB mouse and keyboard. keyboard works great, mouse does not. can fool x into loading by pointing the mouse at /dev/adb, but of course the mouse doesn't work. I don't have a /dev/adbmouse do i need to recreate that? how? TIA,   MarkDo You Yahoo!?
