Very strange -- at first it /didn't/ work but then I fiddled around a
bit, did a make-kpkg clean and it appears to be working now!

Problem solved.
You have to set CONFIG_MAC_PARTITION=y.
I was quite stupid not to notice this wasn't set. Especially since it says
to use this if your hard drive was partitionned by a Macintosh.
Hope this will give a definitive answer to that problem.
