I take your word for it however, xserver performance under
Debian/Linux woody ppc rimains limited.
Why does XFree86 in darwin perform so much better than under Linux?
At the end, XF86 is XF86 and as the video h/w is the same
A kernel problem?

I think this issue may apply to everybody running ppc on a an apple mac
with ATI Rage 128 video card...
I have started installing from a debian-ppc/woody 3.0r0 and finally
managed to obtain a working xserver after a lot of struggling with the
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 c

I have actually solved this problem by downloading a kernel-image
(2.4.22-ben2) ready to use for my iMac DV+
Problem is that I am still working on missing modem/ethernet connection
as well as sound capabilities.

last night I did it again... :-)
due to a bad kernel I lost control of my linuxbox after start and had
to force a reboot as the system had frozen solid.
Problem I couldn't see my ext2 partition from OSX so that possibility
wasn't there anymore. I had however noted down the exact path t

Actually after having added the sound module (dma_sound) with modconf I
get some sort of noise but not yet any sound...
Can anybody suggest as where to go from here?
