I have the 2.2.19 kernel from Potato on a g4 tower. When I try to start
esd I get:
/dev/dsp: No such device
I have done a MADEDEV audio and have:
crw-rw 1 root audio 14, 3 [date/time] dsp
I have installed soundcore and dmasound, and added myself to the audio group.

I wrote to the list on August 18 reporting problems getting debian to
boot/install on a G4 mac (Subject:boot problems on g4). I should have
mentioned that I had installed an Adaptec 2906 SCSI card in the machine.
As I reported, booting got stuck with the kernel from Woody after the md
driver mess

Yes, got it from the powermac directory. By the way, also tried
ramdisk.image.gz and rescue.bin without success.

I'm trying to install Debian on a G4 using the current linux and
root.bin from Woody (3.07-2001-07-11). I've placed these files on my Mac
harddisk, along with yaboot 1.2.3.
Booting gets stuck, with these kernel messages:
