What are you playing the sound with? Perhaps the samples have the wrong

The 9.04 partitioner seemed to work fine for me, it even had an option to

Wow. I think the digital out connector is the second head on the ATI 128.
I've heard rumors of support for it in XFree86 4.0, but I don't know where.
It is definately more than just getting the timing right.

I do agree that BootX is an annoying way to normally boot Linux. It just
looks strange to have the machine boot up and identify itself as MacOS, and
then go into Linux.

There is an NV setting that can make the function keys behave normally (and
you use Fn for brightness). If you have MacOS bootable, you can change it
with the keyboard control panel. If not, it is probably accessible from
Linux, but I don't know how to parse the NV memory.

I tried several mixer programs, and the only one that seemed to work was
kmix. Unfortunately, that uses non-free qt. If nothing else works, you
could make a small program that issues a mixer ioctl to turn up the volume.
