i am trying to use an external la cie fire wire hard drive
with my apple g4 titanium powerbook. i am using the most

the hard drive shows up on the desktop and i can read files

You only have cpu frequency scaling, and your cpu is idling,

No, it's fine, it is clocked down at boot, use cpufreq.
