mixer doesn't work

I upgrade to the latest Sarge build of Debian on my Powerbook G3 Firewire. As it started Xwindows my graphics became screwed up. I just don't have a clue where the problem is... Can someone hel me, please? Try killing the esd daemon and use the alsa plugin. See if helps. I've typed killall esd as root and there was no process called that way. Does the daemon have other name? I've also switched to the ALSA plu
