help with samba

Is anyone able to connect another mac (smb://) with "Connect to Server" to Debian's Samba? I got on my server just fine but I can't drop a file into the directories there, I've chmod'ed them but no luck... it says names being too long then if I cmod it says I don't have permissions... funny thi
