howdy,
i just did the same thing (onto a powerbook) last week. to burn isos on
macos, you need toast deluxe, or some other nice piece of expensive
software. i've searched all over versiontracker for free/shareware, and no
can find. your best bet is burning an iso on your dell.

Hi folks,
I have a DEC VT520 in good working condition that I had working as dumb
terminal with my x86 box, back when I had a working x86 box, over a year
ago.
There are HOWTOs and stuff aplenty, but no one appears to have
documented how to get a dumb terminal connected up using only USB.
I have

Ok, I've tried this once before and wound up with a mess, but does someone
know how to get this configuration working. I have OS9 installed from my
Titanium software restore disk onto a Panther OS X (They are on the same
partition, because the OS9 installer said I needed OS X installed on the HD

Setting FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE solved the problem.

Hi all,
My question is just a little curiosity. Well, I think that I'm running the
2.6.3 kernel with the Ben's patch set. I say "I think" because when I run
"make menuconfig" I only can read on the top of the screen something like
"Linux Kernel 2.6.3 Configuration" (no -benY after version numbe

Hi. I've an iMac that's come to end of life for MacOS and I'm intent
on slapping Debian onto it. At the moment, I'm bogging down in lack
of Mac knowledge. If anyone can offer pointers as to how these things
can be done, I'd appreciate it.

Probably cpufreq. I don't recommend distributing a 2.4 kernel for G5s
anyway. 2.6 is the way to go on these.
2.6.3-ben2 for G5 x-compile in 64 bits is here (yet untested):
ftp://ftp.crihan.fr/mirrors/knoppix-mib.org/k-mib-ppc-beta-pre12.iso
(bootable iso).

It almost gets all the way through, and I don't see any more than a tiny
handful of warnings in the output. But if it worked, I wouldn't be writing

Hi All
unstable here.
Today I compiled and installed the latest
drm-trunk-module-src 2004.02.28-1
When I boot to 2.4.24-ben1 Direct rendering seems to be disabled here.
And I'd like to understand why.
When I boot to my old backup kernel 2.4.22-ben2 everything seems fine,

A partition for /boot is in normal cases
There is something else I have observed. ybin does maybe have some problems
with ext3 partitions containing /boot. As soon as I have taken ext2 for /boot
it has worked at once.
Dunno if it helps...just something which made it hard to start with Debian on
PPC.

ioreg found this:
"driver,AAPL,MacOS,PowerPC"
with some hex data in it. I need to get it to dump only that property (the
output is clipped at col. 80 currently).
I guess that's what we're looking for?

Hi everyone,
Good morning, Im try to install Debian onto a RS6000 7044-170, but in many
manuals (for example
http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/docs/HOWTO/other-formats/pdf/IBM7248-HOWTO.pdf),
I have to update the microcode or firmware, because I cant boot the computer
with the debian images,

Help! I installed kernel-image-2.6.3 and while fixing a video problem
has completely cut off off networking, along with other commands -- the
reason I'm writing this from OS X, not Debian.
I was upgrading from 2.18 and when installing 2.6.3 (a kernel
supporting the iMac CRT), there was a screen

Hello,
Here's a newbie question... I'm running sarge on a Pismo powerbook, and I
have an iMic USB sound IO. it makes sound when i'm in KDE as root, but
doesn't make any sound when i'm a regular user. so, i've inferred that it
has something to do with permissions. permissions on what?

hi everybody,
I read:

don't know but switching it off didn't change anything, so I try again:
2.6.3-ben2 on my tibook 800 stops with the following messages (hda, hdc
are detected just fine):
VFS cannot open root device "hda4" unknown block(0,0)
