Here's the dmesg from the troublesome kernel. I've mucked around with
things a bit more, and there is definitly a problem. It fails to set DMA
on the ide channel.

the modelines generated by Xautocfg is out of sync on my display. I found the
EDID file in the openfirmware device-tree, is there a program to parse it in
debian ? is there another solution?

I have a ibook2 and I've just downloaded vanilla 2.4.21, put benh2
patches, and xfs patches, fixed up a EXPORT_SYMBOL(mark_page_access)
extra in kernel/ksyms.c (it's exported by XFS in mm/filemap.c), and
cooked up the kernel without any problems with gcc-3.3.

But for 2.4.21 they do not (yet) exist. Are they obsolete or just not yet
