i'm using "pbbuttonsd" for this purpose. this tool also supports those
function-keys (e.g. eject cdrom-tray) and afaik

more recent BUS designs (speak: PCI at least) allow
irq-sharing, ie. multiple devicing sharing one IRQ line.
