I compiled my own kernel yesterday (feeling very proud of doing just
that) and have fixed some problems. I have questions about dma sound
and scsi though. I compiled (kernel-source-2.4.18 with patch from
kernel.org) with CONFIG_DMASOUND_PMAC=y and CONFIG_DMASOUND=y, but get
no sound. Do I need j

Hi
I have two PowerMac 7200/120, and a 1.2GB quantum fireball that I
installed debian on. It boots on the machine that I ran the debian
install on; on the other one, all I get is an icon of a floppy disk with
a flashing question mark when I turn it on. If I put the disk back in

I believe you may not have created the device files for also. There is
some script, named snddevices I believe, that must be run by the root
user to create the necessary device files. You should be able to find
it in the source that you compiled alsa-driver from.
That would be my first suspi

Hi,
I'm having some problems getting alsa to work on my iBook. I have compiled
and installed alsa-driver-0.9.0rc7 and the relevant alsa packages from woody.
After booting the machine the following modules are loaded:
i2c-keywest 7536 0 (autoclean) (unused)
snd-powermac 3
I already did this, but the heat is still there. I think HD is much busier
running MacOs X than when running Linux. But I will check this again.

I thought that it might be the HD. But then I think that I have less HD
activity when running Linux than when running MacOS X. Are there tools to
measure disc activity unter Linux and MacOS X?

Hi guys,
I tried to install yellowdawg -- but it failed. So next I tried
deb-eye-an ( i was going to try them all )
Got deb working on text only, so then I mounted the ydl images on a loop
mount and found this config tool -- it got ~my~ imac working proper:

Just download the package you used before.
dpkg -e console-data-.deb .
then copy the stuff you need, where you need it ;)
If think it will go from ./usr/share/keymaps/azerty/blah to
/usr/share/keymaps/azerty/blah use install-keymap to load it and copy
it to /etc/console-data/bootkeymap.ffasd.gz or
Hi all,
I upgraded from woody to testing, and therefore I lost my
special chars on the french powerbook keyboard.
Is there some repository to load a keyboard 'azerty' with
common symbols such as tilde, pipe, braces... ?
or do I have to rebuild my own keymap ?

Hello all,
I installed debian after OSX proved to be too unstable and complicated
to create webserver appliance.
I have a 400MHz 1 1/2 yr old iMac, though I cannot find any model
information.
I would very much like to get X11 going tho..

Hi
I have an powerbook g3 (debian only) which I boot from floppies. To get
it to boot from HD I need to patch open firmware (I think?!).
Now my problem is that I do not have "System Disk" or a MAC OS boot disk
and I cannot create them since I do not have MAC OS any more.
Could some friendly soul
Hi,
I had the same problems while following the same instructions.. They way
i fixed it is before rebooting with the new kernel i removed the symlink
S99xdm in /etc/rc2.d (i assume your runlevel is 2 as well), i just
manually start X en my vm. I know it's an ugly solution but it works for
me..

Hi,
I have an iBook 2.2. My problem is, that the X-server does not start. The
screen turns black and stays like this. There is no way to return to the
console. The only way to access the machine is to login via ssh from a
foreign host. I've installed it following the instructions on mij's page. I

i have a fresh re-install of debian; the default runlevel is 2. i had the
mistaken belief that typing
X :0 kdm
would put me into kde. what am i missing? what document have i not read?
