I got it to work :) Sorry to clog up the lists. After the day of figuring it out... we got it.
Thank you

Yes, linux-ppc definitely boots (with yaboot???) on 7500. That is why I
was thinking it might be possible to burn a bootable for oldworlds.

Some possibilities for it would be:
1 - to netboot Linux (I don't know if it can be made to work
with oldworlds -- but I'd appreciate if pointers were
given regarding this);
2 - install
Hi,
I've got a Apple 9600 on which I would love to have Woody (only).
The trouble is I removed the floppy years ago to make room for another
harddisk.
As far as I understood from the install manual I need to use floppies
for oldworld macs.
I don't have a floppy drive available I could put in.
Any
Not quite sure about that ... I think the old "Linuxppc" distribution
came with a CD which was bootable on my 8500 (I think the was the 1999
release ...) I could try to find my copy of that CD if anyone thinks
the info might be useful ??

A while back I had good luck first installing potato on a 7500 and then
booting with a SuSE 2.4.12 coff boot disk and than upgrading to potato by
modifying the sources list. This same technique didn't work on an SuperMac
c500.
I have not been able to get the woody completely installed from the
I have an old pwer pc (not apple) system which works - has a full system
9 install on a loud old internal scsi drive.
I would like to remove that drive and replace it with a woody only drive
- just linux, no mac OS.
I have read thru the install manual, and am still at a loss as to how to
go about
