I ended up getting my system back by using bootx + redhat installer. I got a replacement bash and libreadline from base2_2.tgz. For some reason cp wouldn't work when booted from the installer image, so I had to "cat file1 > file2" plus "chmod 775 file2" to do copies. "Mr. Christopher F. Miller"

I have just gotten my powermac (power computing clone 603e 200) back online after broken bash. My $.02 after playing with that thing for nearly two years is that floppies are useless. OF on that particular machine is way too flakey, bootvars doesn't work, Quik is unreliable, have to use BootX
