Note that you can always make a local modification which puts
the dns stuff in /etc, leaving a symlink at /var/named/.

in /etc/named. Symlinks from /var could, of course, be provided for

A few of us have been talking about what exactly constitutes a "conf"
file. Would someone with more experience care to weigh in on this.
