wonder if Heiko is willing to write
something about the structure of his CDs so that we can work along those
lines. His CDs already use a new multi-cd system

I would need to read everything.
Using a specific header would just be fine although it still means we have to
get all the volume of this list (and pay for downloading it) and that could
be avoided using a list. The fact that you are not "so" oppossed to the list
leads me to believe that cos

delayed. I can't possibly read every single change to policy and this is
already a problem. If the dicussions affect my packages in more fundamental
manners, policy will start to be ignored altogether.

be implemented by developers and sometimes they have a good reason to object
even if they don't normally follow all/any discussions in this list.

Its also somewhat dangerous. Ideally this would be limited to one's packages
(and maybe members of debadmin).

how important this is.
In any case, having an automatically created rules file is probably the most
powerful aproach anyway. I'd definitively go for that if workable.

that policy should be followed in almost all cases but we don't have to take
it with blind faith.

ends up being *far* more difficult to solve the problems because nobody has
all the information. Getting rid of one single name in that field would
probably force people to use the packages.debian.org address which is better.

reason as to why we don't want to change policy lightly. But when we
agree on policy, then lot's of users expect things to be that way and
therefore lots of them will be annoyed when they are not.
I don't think policy should be "cast in stone" but there certainly should

If I hear no comment on this, I will file a bug on libc6 with priority important
as this breaks the way several programs should work.

with you on not letting scripts do
stuff on connection without the knowledge of the sysadm, I *do* think
having these files be conffiles is a good idea. I for one, have changed
the files to customize them for my setup and would loath to have to redo
this with every update.

Hi,
could someone explain to me again why only source updates can close bug
reports? Does this mean that bugs closed with non-source uploads have to
closed "by hand" or that they can't be closed at all?
Thanks,
Luis

Anyway, as before, I am not sure what the best "technical" solution would be,
but would like to point out that in the interest of our users we should have
some sort of solution.
Thanks,
Luis.

way with two virtual package names works.
I think Andreas is right here. It'll be debian users that will suffer. I
don't feel I know enough of the packages and kde to be sure which is the best
technical solution but I do think we should work something out. And this
regardless of whether we like kde or not. It's in the interest of our users
and of not being called a "broken" distribution.
That's at least how I feel about it.

How about having as many "Closes:" as necessary (one per bug or set of related
bugs) and a short explanation in brackets?
