I think I missed the original message on this :( Where does the idea of /etc/environment come from? Is this linuxish or just debian? Isn't the "standard" (i.e. SVR4) thing to use /etc/profile for Bourne-like shells and /etc/.login for Csh-like shells? Guy W. Hulbert
