It's my understanding that you shouldn't do that. If it's possible to
make a single binary with support for both, then you should build it with X
support.

Yeah, cruise freshmeat.net there are always tons of cool things nobody
has packaged yet. Even just reading the last few days should help you
find something that _you_ find cool to package.
