I assume if you have a script which depends on an Architecture: any

Architecture: all and let the dependency make it clear which architectures
it can work on?

I could be wrong, but it seems to me like you might not want to define

not, one way or another.

other useful work there is to be done that does not require packages.
Also, before doing any packaging work, you should always check
http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp to be sure that no one else is already
working on the things you are intending to packages.

It is possible that your package is being held up by problems in some
package on which it depends. Of course, there are other possibilities as
well :)

True, we have a
massive influx of NMs, but there is a massive influx of useful free
software, and we need to accept NMs at a corresponding rate if we want to
keep up.

ems to me that debian is still
a pretty small minority distro even among fairy savvy types. There is a
ton of useful software that isn't packaged, and the the best maintainers
already have 20, 30, 50+ packages each, its not the time to get too
elitist about who can work for debian. We have this great well defined
system for packaging with excellent tools like debhelper, it seems to me
insane not to take advantage of these assets.
Britton
Yes, you should check the wnpp page http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/index
to make sure no one else is already working on it, then announce you
intent to package by filing a wishlist bug against wnpp as per the
instructions in the developers reference (which you should read :).
