appreciate some inputs on figuring out the transformation from [3]
to [4] - brightness, contrast, gamma etc. and suitable tools (preferably
non interactive) to carry them out.

My main problem right now is to figure out the transformation that a
proprietary system is doing, from the pre and post samples. Will perhaps
need multiple such samples with different exposure settings, but for now
have attached one pre-post pair in my last mail.

given raw pixel value there are multiple transformed values i.e. the
transformation is not a function of pixel's value alone. It seems some
sort of filtering where the neighboring pixels also influence the
resultant value.
