I was little sloppy in that last posting which may have lead to confusion. I
meant to say that when a parameter has a single argument, putting quotes around
it seemed to cause a problem. In my case I was using the parameters
--packages-lists "xfce-desktop" and --packages "firmware-iwlwifi" whi
To follow up, I figured out what I was doing wrong- I was using quotes around
single arguments to parameters, e.g. --packages-lists "xfce-desktop" instead of
--packages-lists xfce desktop and --packages firmware-iwlwifi.

I do not believe I am using live build 3.x. Since this is running from a
debian squeeze live build I assumed live build 2.x and was using the associated
documentation. The package fetched by apt-get is live_build_2.0.12-2_all.deb.
Thanks for the hint. Ok I've got the live build to actually build an image on
the thumb drive. Merely inserting the thumb drive into the laptop mounted it
at /media/scratch but "mount" showed it indeed was mounted as "nodev". I have
no idea what that means but it was apparently breaking the
Ok, since I ran out of room on the ram disk, I tried plugging in a 16 GB thumb
drive. This mounted and was located at /media/scratch. I invoked the lb
config and lb build from this directory but this broke too with the following
