Small mistake: Somehow in mulling over the possibility of also adding
gpg & gpg2 to the list of possible tools to use (which I ditched), I
mistakenly came under the impression that the --no-default-keyring
parameter was available on gpgv/gpgv2, but it's not, so it needs
removing from the patch I su
The submitted build.log says:
dd: failed to open ‘chroot/usr/lib/syslinux/mbr.bin’: No such file or directory
This is because the syslinux version in jessie expects mbr.bin to be found in:
/usr/lib/SYSLINUX/mbr.bin
(see https://packages.debian.org/jessie/i386/syslinux/filelist)

from experimental, udev from wheezy-backports (Wheezy's udev isn't

backend/initramfs-tools/live.hook tries to include the "overlayfs"
kernel module in the initramfs. However, that module is called
"overlay", so it's never included, and then booting with the
union=overlayfs parameter can't work
