the official debian-live image configuration trees are available in the
live-images package. i suggest you look at those.

Ok- I've got an amd64 wheezy live-build that uses the ubuntu quantal signed
kernel. Now, which packages do I need to install to get the nvidia and ati
prop drivers? Are these right?
fglrx-control fglrx-driver
nvidia-glx nvidia-kernel-dkms nvidia-xconfig nvidia-settings

By default it mounts with half of RAM. It should be 4 GB in your case.
