ext4 for live-rw?

Is ext4 a good choice for the live-rw partition? I've been using ext2, but I recall reading some benchmarks that showed ext4 being faster (even with the journal, I think). If I use an ext4 live-rw on a flash drive, is it recommended to disable journaling? (If so, any pointers on how to do that?)

Hi, As mentioned before I'm currently trying to make live-boot work for a powerpcspe embedded system. Currently I'm testing this with a fat partition on a usb hard-disk attached to the system. Unfortunately live-boot is currently hardwired to work with either aufs or unionfs, which both are not
