than open one. Honestly, if you trust no one, I don't see why you're
releasing the code; large parts of the world live under legal systems

The way I always looked at this issue was like this:
Someone gives you a copy of (say) xsoldier, under the GPL v2, or
later, *your choice*. You can choose to pass that extra choice along
to everyone you distribute to (I like doing this) or you can choose
not to.

I took over the upstream of xsoldier (I am not the original author,
so I don't have the copyright). It was under GPL version 2
or later. Can I put it under GPL exactly version 2, that is,
forbid any later version? GPL says:
