I installed debian on an old total peripherals 486dx4100 - no cd rom. I used base floppies ,installed samba and then used dselect through a network connection to my other pc with a cdrom. Everything works fine - pcmcia, modem , touch mouse pad in X (X was the hardest thing to configure) Lappie cos
