keyboard dies when closing screen

when i close the lid on my fujitsu p1120, sometimes the keyboard stops responding. its quite odd though, even the system keys appear non-functional, vis-a-vise num lock, although it is a rather odd numlock. its still active on the network. also, pushing the power button starts the shutdown proc
