look also at enableing netfilter in the networking options for
firewalling - in the 2.6.20 kernel you will need to enable that in the
config as that's been moved as well.

I use iwconfig and iwlist (in the wireless-tools package).
`iwlist scan` will give you a list of available networks.
`iwconfig essid ''` will connect you to a network (most of the time)
`iwconfig key AA:AA:AA:AA:AA` will set your key.
`ifconfig up` brings up the interface.
`dhclient ` obv
problem with this config, or whether the above indicates such? I'm not sure what else to do next to debug this...

Seconded, use a good quality can-of-air and spray into the laptop air
intake. I had a similar problem with my 2nd hand thinkpad, clearing
the intakes and exhausts did no end of good. Keep the can vertical
though, or you may find yourself spraying your CPU with insta-freeze.
