success installing Linux on a Compaq laptop? If so,
how did you overcome the partition issue?

drive, with a larger unit. This too worked out of the box. I would
like to see some of the error msgs if you could post them. Are you
getting any signal 7 errors or anything of the sort?

Strangely enough, I ran into the same problem on my laptop, but the
solution was to uninstall gpm. Probably just my own laziness, but I
couldn't get a configuration of gpm and X that wouldn't have mouse
problems, but removing gpm from the equation fixed it right up.
