I have been trying to get this setup configured for a while now, with
some help on debian-user, but seem to be missing a vital insight.
Thinkpad 600E, Kernel 2.6.14-2-686, sid, orinoco wifi card.
Wifi card talks to the Netgear DG834G router when security is disabled,
but when I turn WEP on it does

Maybe someone here has an idea how to approach this:
The thinkpad 600E doesn't allow any access to BIOS - it could only be
accessed under a windoze utility I believe. It runs fine under debian,
but I recently (rashly, maybe) upgraded to a 2.6.14 kernel as part of a
major reorganising that did not

I have the same issue with orinoco_cs on sid on a thinkpad 600E. I had
a lot of advice here about a month ago, but never solved it. (Also

I know this list is committed to debian on laptops, but see quite a few
references to debian derivatives, so perhaps this is not entirely OT.

a working system. Sound sometimes needs a tweak, but generally

How do you do that, Michelle? I have both a TP570 and a TP600

I know this has been covered before, but I am just doing a periodical
check to see if anyone has solved it in the meantime. Many do seem to
get sound on laptops now, so there is hope...
I have an Acer Aspire 1604Z. lspci shows the onboard sound to be

That is the default that alsa loads. As it did not work, I tried the
other one (suggested on one list or another for a similar model).

Hi all,
I couple of words of warning about upgrading to 2.6.18:
I recently tried installing the 2.6.18 linux image on an etch laptop (in
fact in the hope of solving a sound problem, but that is immaterial).
grub
I immediately ran into the problem that the install quietly removed all
