debian squeeze with gnome on an acer travelmate 4002 wlmi.

I did stumble across one remedy: plug in ac-adapter, unplug it, plug it
in again, and the charging begins. well, not straight forward, but
painless enough.

"out-of-the-box" because you'll have to download the firmware and
compile the module in the kernel ;-)
