Dear list
This isn't exclusively laptop related but has arisen
precisely because my laptop is portable. It is also probably fairly
trivial so please point me to a web page that explains this stuff -- I
have Googled fairly extensively though.

Thanks for your reply Bob. They do provide VPN, but I haven't been able
to find out how to do this under Linux. Do you have experience of this
working?

Dear list,
I've noticed a number of strange things in my boot messages and I

Dear list,
Looks like I drew a blank on this one. Or did I phrase the question wrong?

Dear list,
I did a regular apt-get upgrade on my laptop yesterday, with a lot
of new updates. Now when I try to boot my 2.6.15 kernel I get

Hello,
I'm running Debian unstable on a Fujistu Lifebook P7010. After a
recent apt-get upgrade Emacs seems to have gone missing from my
packages! I tried to reinstall it but there seem to be dependency
issues. Please could anyone advise? More information below.
Thanks for your help

Thanks, that seemed to work. Is there a general problem with this in
the unstable distribution?

What is the news on using webcams with the voice-over-IP services

Dear List,
I've just upgraded to unstable (some software we are developing
requires a recent gcc4) and found upon restarting that Thunderbird
won't start.
The message I get is:

Hi folks,
Running Debian Unstable on Fujitsu Lifebook with Centrino processor.
Did a dist-upgrade last night to fix various things, and after a
reboot, eth1 (which used to be the address for my wireless card) no
longer appears. If I boot with earlier versions of the kernel it works
fine.

Dear List,
I have an odd problem with sound on my laptop. It works for my
account, but not that of my wife (bad for Linux advocacy :-[ ). For
example, her volume control has a red cross on it and says that

Dear List,
I am trying to get my Centrino wireless card working on my
Fujitsu-Siemans Lifebook S7010 running Debian with the 2.6.8 kernel.
I have successfully installed the ipw2200 drivers and the device comes
up as eth1. However when I select the "networking" GUI program, eth1

How do I use a memory stick with Debian? I connected my stick and
the following appeared in "dmesg". Is it working? How do I access it?

Thanks. My partition table says:
Disk /dev/sda: 252 MB, 252
I ran hwinfo and got some information which is at the bottom of this
email. Is the problem something to do with the partition (#42?).

There is a lot of chat about moving from Xfree

behind it? A link to a good web page would be fine.
