Do you mean the module-init-tools package? The kernel-image modules
depend on that package.

d how OSS works, either!

So the question I have is do I still need to install separate wlan-ng
drivers? Or are the prism drivers built into the 2.6 kernel?

make upgrading easier. Oh, ya, so far this
hasn't been exactly easy...
[1] I also have an aironet 352 card, but using it makes my SMC access
point freeze after some time and I have to power cycle the AP.

y:
1) pcmcia in the kernel source
2) pcmcia-cs from sf.net
3) madwifi also from sf.net.
Too many choices for a simple upgrade!

;d like to move to ACPI, but for no other reason than it seems like the
the newer option.

(You can ensure a command never fails by
suffixing "|| true".)
Which, I think it would be handy if a command fails then the interface
is not brought up. That would make it easy to have a command that tests
if the interface is actually connected.

't have to mess with much.
Any reason to throw in a PCI wireless card into one of my Debian boxes
and make that an AP -- other than for the "fun" of building an AP?

problems with wireless now. I think my hardware must
be failing as I'm having the same problems with different drivers.
Lately when I remove my wireless card my machine will freeze hard.
Seems like these problems started with upgrading to 2.6.5, but I also
suspect my wireless hardware is
ere's either a long
delay or a system hang. I don't think that's a cardmgr issue, though --
as I've tried manually removing the drivers (ifdown eth1; rmmod
) and have the same problems. So, I'll agree that it's either a
problem with the driver dealing with being removed, or the kernel.
It's time like these that those powerbooks don't seem so expensive. ;)

27;s my question. What else does cardmgr do? I tried stopping
cardmgr then manually inserting my card, manually loading the modules
and finally manually running the script but the driver didn't bind to
the card (or something like that). So I'm curious what other step is
happening.

Any nice graphical tools for displaying wireless data (like signal
strength)? I use cards based on Prism (using hostap) and also and
Aironet 350.
Thanks,

have to wiggle the power cable just right to make the connection.
Might be time to look for a new (Debian friendly) laptop.

that key to create the tunnel in an init script and use the -N ssh

Perhaps /bin/false to prevent misuse of the keypair.
Or am I missing the obvious procedure?

I'd like to keep that mixer, so is there a way to see why it's either
held back (apt-get) or removed (aptitude)?
How would you deal with these conflicts?

Yes, maybe time for a clean install and a new drive. I wonder if
knoppix has the smartmontools installed (and if this drive will work
with SMART). I've been meaning to play with SMART for a while.

I'm going to head to Frys and look for a new disk for my Toshiba
2805-S302. The machine came with a 20GB drive, but I find online
sites selling 80GB drives for that laptop -- so I assume that large of
a drive will work.
Any recommendations on which brands to use (or avoid)?
