I have been running Debian Sarge and Linux 2.6 for quite a long time.
My configuration looks as follows:
Laptop: Toshiba Satellite A50-106
SUSPEND core : 2.2-rc16
- Kernel Version : 2.6.15
- Compiler vers. : 3.3 (gcc)
It works for me without problems.

latest CVS of Alsa, to support your Realtek ALC260
I cannot help more, not having this chipset.
