X11 config problem

Hi, I got an acer aspire 1406 LC with, I think, an ATI radeon video card. I can't get my debian system to display in 1024*768, even though my card can handle this resolution. I opened a console, run dkpg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86, specified the api driver but it still doesn't work. I'm still

The module name is p4-clockmod.  Note that I am running Ubuntu linux with the 2.6.11 kernel right this second. When i got my 380ed laptop I had to go through the same problem too. Luckly, I found a program built in the laptop which allows you to build drivers for that laptop. I do have a sound drivers diskette for that laptop. but i dont think its necessary to show your address to people you dont know. But
