Long time to unpack kernel on IBM X31

Hi, I just installed my first debian on IBM X31 notebook. Loading kernel takes too much time. After I choose kernel in lilo menu, there is text 'Loading kernel' and a dots are showing after him. It takes about 1 minute and than kernel booted. Has anyone experienced the same behavior? Thanks, kyb

Recent upgrade to Debian Sarge on a Thinkpad T23, with kernel 2.6.8, home-brewed. I had initially intended to use ACPI, but I couldn't get it working and since APM works flawlessly on this machine, I thought I would stick with it. But the laptop will not sleep with the AC plugged in. Now I've go
