Since upgrading to testing and kernel 2.6.6 (with patches from Bjoern

activated ACPI debugging I get a lot of messages from the

Hello everybody,
it is now a while that I have been trying to compile and
install a 2.6 kernel with no luck. I am currently
running a 2.4.26 kernel and my boot loader is grub.
My linux partition has the ext3 fs on it.
The error I get is always:
VFS: Cannot open root device "hda2" or unknown-bloc

There is another possibility which I guess may be the case, as it

Do you have the "initrd" file? You need it for the module that
recognizes your root file system to be loaded before the kernel can
mount the root fs.
Take a look on the "mkinitrd" man page :-)
