Hi everyone.
I'm new in the list, and I'm happy to see there's loads a activity.
I've just got a Compaq Presario 701EA and I'm on the point of installing
2.2r5 (or testing, I'm not sure yet). I've read around of many problems
with the ACPI and bios and stuff. Is there anyone around who got this

I have got a problem on my Vaio FX501, maybe you can help me.
APM stuff is not working fine: the battery has a very short life-time when
I use my laptop unplugged.
apm is here and working (I can get informations about the battery) but it
seems like my cpu fan as my harddrive are always working :

This is a known problem on this series of VAIOs, such as FX301, 401,
etc.
In fact, all the battery consuming elements are controlled through the
ACPI interface, thus,
I just bought a Vaio fx501.
Windows xp sucks on my vaio for some cd-roms can only be read under... dos...

But is the battery thing the only problem? I can imagine that the modem/the
tv-out settings are
hard to install properly as well?

Sony made an effort for FX501 battery compared to FX401 ones:
Battery power on FX401: 25.16Wh (14.8V 1700mAh)
Battery power on FX501: 44.4Wh (14.8V 3000mAh)
I didn't made some testing but i think you should be able to use the VAIO
more than one hour with the new battery pack.

The modem will probably not work out of the box, it's another AC97
something chipset. I couldn't succeed with the modem on my FX301
All of KDE is in woody and sid. Just change your /etc/apt/sources.list
for the testing or unstable branches, apt-get update, and you can
install all or part of KDE. Last I checked, package kde was a
meta-package that installed everything (and I do mean *everything*)

Hi,
I bet this started after having booted into Windows once...?
Here's the trick: Switch off the machine and boot ONCE while connected
to the power (charging) adapter.
As long as you don't start Windows, the problem is solved. This
procedure must be performed everytime after having started Wi
