Obvious question: Have you tried it
I'm having a strange problem with my laptop (dell inspiron 7000), it
dual boots win2k and linux, and about every 3rd time I reboot something
goes awry. If I'm booting win2k it gets about 3/4 booted then freezes
completely, if I'm booting linux it boots but complains about /proc not
being mounted.

A bit of a warning, I just compiled the new 0.5.12 drivers for my
tecra8200 (from http://www.alsa-project.org) and to by great surprise no
sound was produced anymore ;).
If anyone got this working, let me know.
I did a rollback to the 0.5.11-drivers which did work.

Hello,
I think, I have the same problem. I have ASUS A1360 laptop with SiS630
What I found at the www.linux-laptop.net is a page
http://www.retepnet.it/alfmar/pxnsoa.html
where it is reported that EVERYTHING worked fine in VESAframebuffer mode
and standard XF86free_SVGA driver.

I also have a Gericom laptop with the integrated SiS630 chipset. It works
fine with the
sis-driver and XFree-4.0.1. I didn't try 4.0.3 bu I tried 4.1.0 and it
didn't work.
The real sis driver seems to be a bit faster than the fbdev-driver but
there's no
Xv extension avaiable.
Have a look at the w
