I did something very stupid (it was an accident...)
I changed all the file permissions on /etc with chmod -R 777 *
Is there any way to restore the default, correct permissions ?

when I've reinstalled packages that a jr sysadmin overwrote (mailman) it
corrected the permissions, so this should work.

I've got an A21m thinkpad with TV out, and have been unable to
I've got APM configured, and can initiate a sleep/suspend from root. I
can't do this as an unprivileged user either from the command line or
via wmapm (a WindowMaker dock app).
Attempting same from command line:
$ apm -S
Cannot open APM device: Permission denied
Suggestions?
