Hey All,
After many headaches and much experimentation I finally discovered that
my Compaq 1640 using a NM2160 chipset really doesn't like running
XFree86 version 4.0 or greater. It chugs along fine in the 3.3 series,
but as soon as I upgrade or try a distribution that uses 4.0 it will
crash the
thinkpad 600/600e. IBM even has docs on how to get them working with
(redhat) linux, though you can sort out how to get all the bits, except the
winmodem, with debain from those directions.
regards,
glen

hi,
i think we should collect those tidbits of information on the
installation and configuration of debian on laptops there. an example
would be the comment on putting 'Load "xaa"' and 'Option
"ExcludeCPUIntensiveSomethingFromAnywhere"' into XF86Config-4 in order
to prevent X from crashing the OS
