Hi everybody !
Has anybody ever tried to use an external monitor on an inspiron 5000 ?
I'm trying it right now and I'm having problems with X. When I'm in text
mode, I can see the same thing on both of my screens, but under X (I use a
Mach64 Server with an ATI Rage Mobility), I can only see the
Hello.
On my Dell Latitude LS i have to give the X server parameters in order to
get the external monitor working. Try "extern_disp" or something
similar. further docs are available in /usr/share/doc/xserver-,
atleast for the SVGA server.

I'm trying to install potato on a friend's compaq presario
1244. Unfortunately, i can't figure out what kind of graphics card it
has, much less come up with an appropriate xfree config.
Compaq 'support' doesn't even think the model exists; the Linux for
laptops site has info on the presario 1247
What does SuperProbe say? Can it find anything and does what it find sound
probable? Have you tried Running XF86Setup? That should at least give you
a working VGA16 server and possibly/hopefully a SVGA server.

Hi all,
I'm using a Targus Slim-Line cdrom via pc card interface on my NEC P75.
The cdrom is mounted from /dev/hdc to /cdrom and works fine *except* for
the fact that executable permission is denied. When I type "mount", the
line for cdrom reads: /dev/hdc on /cdrom type iso9660
