I was never able to fix this either. I fixed it by having dhcpcd started when the card was inserted rather than at boot time, and the startup script for it kills off any old dhcpcd's that are still hanging around. It's supposed to be a daemon, but what I have observed is that it doesn't really work

I had this problem too, and the only way to get X working properly (legibly) was to use the SVGA driver.  This of course made the graphics performance really bad (loow).  So it would be really good if the Mach64 XFree86 driver was up to it. Richard Shepherd Organisation

Look at the /etc/pcmcia/network.opts file and the /etc/pcmcia/network script. You should be able to start dhcpcd automatically my editing the network.opts file. apache is available before the network comes up, and I haven't noticed any problems with other daemons, but I usually have the network car
