In Inspiron 5160 running Debian Sid, kernel 2.6.7 (smp and ACPI and APM
compiled), I get these errors (apm is disabled in grub options with
"noapm"). I believe xfree86 hangs when xscreensaver suspends the system
(because if no user is logged into gdm and the login screen is there, it

I'm using 2.6 (currently 2.6.8-rc1) and have been using these scripts:
/etc/acpi/suspend_to_ram.sh

I have an Asus M2400N and when I close the lid, the screen is turned off
automatically. But I am not sure, who or what is responsible for that.
IIRC it was the same with a 2.4.x kernel and APM (today it runs 2.6.7
w/ACPI).

Well, with my older Acer laptops (Travelmate 732 and 351) it doesn't
work at all. Suspend-to-disk seems either not implemented yet, or the
Hi,
since I have already asked some days before whether anybody could
provide scripts for acpi support e.g. to shut down the screen when the
cover is closed and since I did not receive any response,
I will ask again:

May be not ACPI, but try `setterm' and `xset'.

efore that
setting has no effect. Screen will go blank after a while, but it's
clear to see that the backlight is still lit. Same thing under KDE.
Anyone know of a way to switch the screen to standby using acpi?
