power off on dell inspiron

I've just installed Knoppix 3.4 with kernel 2.4.26. Now the power off is not working right - upon reaching "halted" screen blanks but the machine does not shutdown and the screen reactives when return is pressed. Any ideas ? (It shut off fine with Knoppix 3.3)
