Hey folks,
I don't know if this has come up before... sorry if it's a repost... I
was wondering if anyone had advice on good PCMCIA NICs. I'm setting up
a cable modem account with a local ISP and I'm not sure what card to
pick up...
Thanks in advance for any advice on this.

I also had an issue with a PCMCIA NIC install; mine was a
floppy + net install. At the point where it loads pcmcia
module support it reported an error it couldn't get past
so I went to another console and got a shell and poked around.

I recently installed debian on a laptop. I installed basic potato
system (with reiserfs support) and then did a dist-upgrade to woody
straight away. PCMCIA seems to be fine under both potato and woody.
I didn't have to do any tuning for my install.

I had loaded the May 25th version of debian-woody from a CD image,
and got some conflict between the NIC and some other device
(which I expected, since I'd gotten a conflict between the NIC and
the PCMCIA devices under Win NT.) But I got it to where everything
would come up fine.

PCMCIA is officially obsolete. The two new names are "PC Card" and "Card
Bus". PC Card can only handle about 1.5MB/s, so it's a waste of money to get
a PC Card 100baseT card as it won't be much faster than a 10ba

If you have to use a token ring card use the ibm turbo 16/4 together with the
